Lieutenant General H.H Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; and Dahou Ould Kablia, Algerian Minister of Interior and Local Governments signed, on Monday, a security cooperation agreement between the UAE and Algeria. The signing ceremony was held at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ.

The agreement defines cooperation between the two countries on combating all types of crimes, exchanging information and expertise, in particular on combating human trafficking, drug trafficking, and illegal trade in weapons and ammunition.

It also establishes the framework and mechanisms of coordination between the two parties, including the setting up of a joint Committee to implement the Agreement.

During the meeting he held earlier at his office, His Highness met the Minister and the accompanying delegation, to discuss a number of issues of mutual interest and ways to enhance and develop relations between the two countries. Moreover, His Highness hosted a lunch banquet in honor of the Algerian Minister and members of the delegation, at St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort in Abu Dhabi.

The meeting and the signing of the Agreement were attended, on behalf of the Ministry of Interior, by H.E Lieutenant General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior; Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior for Resources and Support Services; General Mohammad Al Awadi Al Menhali, Director General of Human Resources at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ; Rashid Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Federal Demographic Structure Council; Colonel Saud Al Saadi, Director of the Secretariat of His Highness the Minister of Interior; as well a number of officers from the Ministry of Interior and Abu Dhabi Police. The Algerian delegation included: Hamid Chebira, Ambassador of Algeria to the UAE; General Abdel Al Ghani Hamil, Director-General for  National Security; Hamed Hamimid, Advisor to the Minister; and Abdel Majid Bin Mussa, Governor of the Police at the Directorate General of National Security.

Earlier,  Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, had met in his office,  Dahou Ould Kablia, the Minister of the Interior and Local Governments in the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria and the accompanying delegation.

The two parties discussed a number of issues of mutual interest and ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination in the areas of Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs between the both ministries.

Accompanied by Major General Khalifa Al Khaili, the Algerian Minister of Interior and Local Governments and his entourage toured the E-passport Section. They were given a brief explanation from  Lt. Colonel Matar Kharbash, Director of E-services Directorate on the workflow at  the Section; the procedures and equipment used  in  printing and issuing electronic passports;  the time required for that process as well as the average daily rate of printing e-passports.

The meeting was attended by Brigadier Mohammed Gharir Al Rumaithi, General Coordinator of Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs; Brigadier Ghareeb Mohammed Darweesh Al Hosani, Director General of the Ports and Airports Security Department; Brigadier Saeed Rakan Al Rashidi, Director General of Naturalization; and Colonel Abdullah Ali Al Hosani, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs.
