Among other seven languages, the Office introduced Braille system to publish its all educational and awareness materials, thus enabling blind people to know all the legislations and laws applicable in the UAE, and raise their legal awareness.
These remarks were made when Brigadier Ahmed Mohammed Nehkairh, director of Human Rights Department and Lt. Colonel Dr. Salah Obeid Al Ghoul, director of the Culture of Law Respect Office received a group of visually impaired individuals.
A number of issues and legal impediments facing this category have been discussed at the meeting.
The Ministry of Interior assumes a major social role which makes it closer to all segments of the society, said Nehkairh
The issue of handicapped is a top priority for the Ministry which had very impressive initiatives in this regard, including the establishment of the MoI centers for rehabilitant and recruitment of the handicapped, and Ghiras Al Amal “hope plant” which was launched by Lt General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minster of Interior last April.
For his part, Dr. Al Ghoul said that we all bear a joint responsibility towards this category. We have to change the stereotype that handicapped persons are different from others. The handicapped were able to prove their capabilities to compete with their healthy peers.
At the end of the meeting, Brigadier Nehkairh handed over copies of the book in Braille to the visually impaired persons, and expressed his readiness to make every effort possible to get their problem solved.
They appreciated this good gesture which reflects the Ministry’s consideration of their problems and its enduring efforts to apply the laws which guaranteed their rights, and promoted for their image as a strong and supportive segment in the society.
