Police arrest people found begging
The Criminal investigation department of the Abu Dhabi Police has arrested seven people found begging from different places in Abu Dhabi on the first day of Ramadan.
Colonel Abdul Kareem Al Marzouqi, the Chief of the Criminal investigation department said that out of the seven, five were
Iranian ladies on visit visa and had arrived in the Emirates just recently.
Another person who was arrested was begging on using a medical walker assist and on seeing the police personnel left his walker and tried to escape but the police were quick enough to apprehend him said Colonel Marzouqi.
He called upon the people to be vigilant from these anti social elements and inform the Police instead of giving them any assistance or money. Begging is illegal and is banned in this country, begging as well as assisting them is punishable under the law. Said the Colonel
Colonel Marzouqi sought the cooperation of all the segments of the society and asked them to help the Police to fight against this social menace. There are many other institutions in the country to assist the needy, like the Red Crescent society he added.
