A raid by Ministry of Interior into a “suspect” laborers accommodation site has resulted into arrest of 220 Bangladeshi laborers violating the work and residency law, 29 of them were infiltrators. The person who sheltered and recruited them was also been arrested.
Violators and infiltrators tried to escape by all means but the team tasked with the mission managed to arrest them.
Major General Nasser Bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Naturalization, Residency and Ports, said out of the 300 laborers we inspected at the camp, Ministry of Interior’s team managed to arrest 220 who where found to have false documents.
He affirmed that UAE laws including foreigners’ entry and residency laws will be implemented; noting that concerned teams will arrest all violators and deport them after applying prescribed penalties.
Any violation to these laws threatens all the members of the community, he added Al Menhali said, we had a tip- off about laborers violating the residency laws and sleeping in the said accommodation.
Al Menhali also noted that inspectors found the accommodations did not follow the health and safety requirements."It was overcrowded, there were many cockroaches. It was dirty and there was a high risk of transmission of various diseases," he said.
Inspection raids will continue day and night to arrest infiltrators and violators of residency laws, affirmed Al Menhali.
Al Menhali urged both UAE nationals and expatriates to keep an eye out for those suspected to have entered the country illegally and to call the “Sahim” community service helpline 80080 to report any offences they have observed. He warned against dealing with such people and not providing work for
them
According to foreigners’ entry and residency law, any one recruits or provides shelter to an infiltrator faces a two month imprisonment and a Dh100, 000 fine. Company owners who violate UAE labor law will be fined Dh50, 000 each.
Major General Al Menhali noted that some “swindlers” provide work opportunities for laborers, which encourage them to escape from their original sponsors.
