The Police Academy began as of Monday morning, distributing new iPad devices to its students; as per the directives of H.H, Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; in line with the "Smart Learning” initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
Colonel Saif Abdullah Al Kutobi, Director of the Police Academy, supervised the training process carried out by the Academy for students benefitting from this initiative; in order to teach them how to use and make the most of these smart devices. By this, the Emirati Police Academy becomes the first Police academy in the region to provide its students with these devices.
The students expressed their happiness for this generous gesture, which emphasizes the keen attention of the country’s leadership to its students, and its continuous strive to qualify them, to keep pace with the latest technical developments in today’s world.
For his part, Colonel Al Kutobi pointed out that this gesture will positively impact the development of Higher Education in the country, by contributing to improve the students' abilities; motivating them to further perseverance and diligence in their education; as well as improving the levels of scientific research, and achieving a quantum leap towards easier communication, access and sharing of knowledge in modern ways.
Al Kutobi added that the first phase of this initiative began with the distribution of the iPads on students of batch 27, who are the youngest; in an effort to enable them to benefit for a longer duration in the field of education and training. He noted that work is underway to successively provide the rest of the student batches with these smart devices, like the other students.
He continued: “These devices will reduce the use of paper, and save the time required in the traditional search for information. They will also acquaint students with the means and innovative educational methods; the latest developments in their fields of specialty, and help them communicate with their peers within and outside the country without any barriers or restrictions.
Commenting on the Abu Dhabi Police Academy’s distribution of the first batch of iPad devices on students of batch 27, a number of educators regarded the gesture as a very important one, reflecting the Ministry of Interior’s quick response to the "Smart Learning” initiative. Dr Sulaiman Al Jassim, Zayed University president, emphasized that distributing the iPads to Police Academy students embodies the speedy response of the Ministry of the Interior to such an initiative, which contributes to develop Higher Education in the state.
Al Jassim added that by implementing state-of-the-art technologies, the Ministry of Interior helped the State achieve excellence and maintain the gains of security and stability. Moreover, he noted that providing Police Academy students with iPads opens new horizons for them, in order to improve their levels of education and knowledge.
He continued: “The UAE has been a pioneer in implementing the iPad initiative, which is regarded as a quantum leap in the educational system; the Ministry of Interior was the first to join the process of implanting the iPad initiative."
