MoI Sports Events Security Committee reviews security and safety measures at stadiums
Sports Activities and Events Security Committee at MoI reviewed the draft law of sports events organization concerning public security and safety measures during football matches, on Monday. The meeting was held at the Football Association Headquarters in Zayed Sports City.
The meeting was attended by Brigadier Faris Khalifa Al Farsi, Director General of Security Guard and Special Tasks at ADP, Abdullah Al Jineibi, Member of the Board of Directors and a number of officials.
A number of issues which serve sports activities in the UAE, implementation of FIFA recommendations in respect of stadia and public safety were discussed during the meeting.
Brigadier Al Farsi reviewed a number of the draft law items and a number of proposals aiming to explain MoI role in policing operations during sports activities and events organized in the country.
He stressed the importance of the role of clubs in security measures under the theme "Security is the responsibility of all". They should bear part of security system such as evacuation plans and other necessary policing procedures for the public safety and security.
Al Farsi explained the role of partners and their policing, administrative and organizational responsibilities at stadia. Clubs should appoint a security and safety officer for stadia.
He said "Administrative and organizational responsibilities should be assumed by establishments and organizers of events. The Police role should be restricted to maintenance of security and order and handling any riots or security violation incidents. Security and organizational procedures in stadia are the responsibility of Security and Safety Officers in the clubs".
Abdullah Al Jineibi, Chairman of the Technical Committee at the Professional Football League appreciated all the points reviewed during the meeting. He thanked the efforts made by MoI officials and lauded the proposals made to reflect the civilized image of the country. He said "There are some points which have not been finalized yet such as entry cards to stadia".
"All clubs will be addressed and informed about the requirements. A field visit programme will be prepared for the clubs to review establishments safety and security measures including organization of workshops for security officers of the clubs in collaboration with the Directorate General of Security Guards and Special tasks", added Al Jineibi.
