Ministry of Interior warns of fireworks dangers
Brigadier Mohammed Baddah Al Awadhi, Deputy Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Interior warned about the dangers of playing with fireworks especially on children and teenagers.
“Despite the frequent warnings and continuous awareness efforts, fireworks are still used though on a lesser scale than previous years”, noted Baddah.
Fireworks pose serious dangers not only on the users, but on the others as well, said Baddah. They cause burns, dangerous disabilities, cause damage to property, and produce loud bangs which affect eardrum, he added
He stressed the importance of synergy in efforts of all civil society organizations and mass media to educate the public all year round about the dangers of fireworks on the health and the environment.
The Rocket
Mother of Ahmed says that most fireworks which produce loud sound and bright colors are dominantly used during the last days of Ramadan. The rocket, a name give to one of these fireworks, has been fitted with a steel base to increase the speed of launch.
The rocket is normally launched vertically, she notes, but one time it went off horizontally, causing a serious neck injury to one kid living in Ain, and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Kholoud story
One lady tells a tragic story of her sister Kholoud who sustained a serous injury when fireworks exploded on her while playing with other children. She was receiving treatment for more than 12 years now. She sustained third degree burns and deformities on her whole body. She was admitted to the intestine care unit for one month, then traveled to the US to complete treatment and she is still visiting hospitals.
