The Higher Committee for Child Protection, represented by MoI Center for Child Protection and Research Media and Awareness Committee is participating in an awareness campaign launched by the General Directorate of Electronic Services and General Directorate of Serving Society in the Dubai Police Department. The title of the campaign is: “Secure their safety and do not ignore their curiosity.” It focuses on protecting children from internet risks, and encourages parents to understand their child’s curiosity when using the internet. The campaign intends to spread safe usage of the internet, keeping users far away from blocked sites and child abusers. There will be 15 governmental and parental associations participating in this campaign.

Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection, commented that the organization encourages participation of societal  institutions and personnel in delivering awareness messages to children and their families.

He said: “This participation aims to accomplish a very noble goal to protect children from all types of risks, and it completes the Ministry of Interior’s campaign that has the same goals and targets.”

He reiterated that the information resulting from these initiatives will be a valuable tool in developing the Khalifa Program that will enable children in all levels at school to protect themselves through knowledge. This program addresses the problems of students in which governmental and parental associations are participating through coordination with recent awareness programs.

He mentioned that the project strategy complies with the federal government strategy, UAE Vision 2021, and Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. The programs also comply with the strategies of ministries and federal parties taking into consideration the social and cultural variety in this country. The program aims to unify national efforts to build a conscientious generation that are fortified with knowledge and able to face present and future challenges. 

Al Nuaimi praised the targets of this campaign to contribute to enhancing child protection. He highlighted the efforts made by Lieutenant Jasem Khalil Mirza, Director of Security Awareness in Dubai Police Department, and his contribution to media and awareness campaigns that he manages.

Al Nuaimi said: “This continuous awareness programs will ensure the protection of children from internet risks, and the programs confirm how technology is very much a part of our lives. We highly appreciate the instruction of the Cabinet to accomplish full electronic conversion in ministries and federal departments within two years to support all sectors by providing complete online services to the public. This initiative is also in line with the UAE Vision 2021 that focuses on making the United Arab Emirates one of the best countries in the world.”

He added: “We have to commit as individuals and institutions to contributing to the accomplishment of the vision of the government to make our country more distinguished; these kinds of campaigns contribute to building a conscientious generation who are able to face different challenges.”

He pointed out that the Higher Committee for Child Protection in the Ministry of Interior continues preparations to host the Fifth Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT) Conference. The conference is to be held in Abu Dhabi 11-13 December 2012. The conference website was recently launched with the aim to accomplish many goals including making the internet a safer place.
