Ministry of Interior launches campaign under the slogan

“They are not aware of the risks”

Ministry of Interior has launched a campaign under the theme “They are not aware of the risks”, with effect from first December. The campaign will continue for three months at the national level. The aim of the campaign is to spread traffic safety among all community members to curb the consequences of traffic accidents and to urge them to abide by traffic rules and to expect all types of hazards from others.

Brigadier Gheith Hassan al Zaabi, Director General of MoI Traffic Coordination said “Expecting and realizing hazards is an urgent necessity for all road users, although all necessary safety measure are in place to protect them from risks such as not crossing roads at designated spots by pedestrians, not fastening seat belts, wrong overtaking, jumping red lights and many others, but there is a need for further awareness and guidance for road users”.

“The total number of accidents resulting from not expecting others mistakes is 5751 during the first ten months of this year. 675 deaths and 7151 different injuries resulted from these accidents. There is a need to enhance awareness and traffic safety culture among all road users, compliance with traffic rules and awareness of risks surrounding this categories due to their non-compliance with traffic rules and regulations”, added Al Zaabi.

“The campaign targets all community segments. 23 federal and local authorities, public utility associations, schools and universities have been urged to work with traffic departments with a view to boost traffic awareness, to propose best solutions and to draw the attention of traffic authorities to deficiencies”, added Al Zaabi.

He has affirmed that this campaign comes within the framework of traffic sector campaigns intended to enhance traffic safety culture in order to curb traffic accidents and the resulting deaths, injuries and financial losses. It is part of MoI strategy derived from the Federal Government strategy, in response to the directives of our Higher Leadership. MoI represented by Traffic Departments all over the country implement several projects to achieve these goals, including traffic awareness project round the year, inviting the private sector to sponsor and finance awareness programmes, use of creative ways to affect the behaviors of drivers and other road users. Our aim is to reach highest levels of traffic safety for all road users.
