Ministry of Interior launches a traffic awareness campaign
Under the slogan "Schools without Accidents"
Ministry of Interior, Directorate General of Traffic Coordination has launched its third Traffic Awareness Campaign of this year, as part of Traffic safety initiatives under the theme "Schools without Accidents". The campaign will run for three months.
The campaign comes within the framework within the framework of the strategic plan of MoI traffic sector to enhance traffic safety, curb accidents and run over cases.
Brigadier Gheith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director General of MoI Traffic Coordination has conveyed his greetings to teaching staffs, parents and students at all schools in the country, on the occasion of the beginning of the new school year, with his best wishes.
"The Directorate General of Traffic Coordination at MoI implements this campaign in cooperation and coordination with all Traffic Deportments in the country, Ministry of Education, Emirates Transport Authority, Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai and other relevant Agencies in Public and Private Sectors. The aim of the campaign is to create a safe environments and accident-free roads, through launching a number of traffic initiatives to spread awareness among different community segments and continuous communication with them", added Al Zaabi.
"There is an urgent need to disseminate more awareness and guiding among all students with their different age categories, parents and all those concerned with students transport, whether at state-run or private schools, in order to reach zero injuries for students and to remain our schools without accidents. The students, of all age categories are important and effective elements of human development which need to be maintained", added Al Zaabi.
He has indicated a remarkable reduction in traffic accidents during last year compared to 2008, by 19 accidents. The number of accidents involving students of ages less than 17 years was 94, compared to 113 accidents in 2008. This reduction was due to preventive efforts and arrangements in students transport to and from schools.
He has affirmed the need for further awareness and guiding to boost traffic safety among all students and school bus drivers and stressing the importance of abiding by traffic rules for theirs and others safety.
The aim of the Directorate campaign is to educate all those involved in students' transport, families and creating traffic culture among them so as to urge their children to adhere to it. The campaign will be through all Medias i.e. Radio, Newspapers, Magazines, TV Channels and the Internet. There will also be discussion sessions in the media, where some officials will be hosted to communicate with the public in respect of the campaign.
"The Schools without Accidents will be shown on some internet sites, forums and chat rooms. Special posters, manuals and roll ups will be distributed to public centers where the public normally gathers.
