The Ministry of Interior and the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ showcased the latest advanced smart technologies at the National Exhibition for Social Awareness and Humanitarian Services “TAWEYA 2012”. The Exhibition, which was inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, is held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
The Ministry of Interior and Abu Dhabi Police briefed the visitors on the e-services provided on Abu Dhabi Police’s website and means to use them. Visitors were also briefed on traffic services; latest techniques in crime detection; as well as the safe use of social networking sites. They also received advice on ways of countering electronic crimes.
Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police stressed the importance of keeping pace with the latest developments in the traffic awareness field. He emphasized the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic Directorate’s commitment to enhance public awareness via the Abu Dhabi Traffic Awareness Program to Limit Traffic Accidents titled “Together”. This program, which was recently launched on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, allows the various segments of society to share their opinions on traffic safety issues. It also encourages them to take part in the traffic awareness initiatives on these websites, including "The Best Family Abiding by Traffic Rules” initiative, to spread the traffic safety culture among the different age-segments within the family.
The Directorate also introduced the visitors to the "The Best School Abiding by Traffic Rules” initiative that aims to enhance the educational sector’s role; the “Best Labor Camp Abiding by Traffic Rules” initiative that aims to raise traffic awareness among workers; and the best young driver initiative that targets drivers between the ages of 18 to 25 years, which is considered the most dangerous age stage, traffic-wise. The selection criteria are mainly based on the need of having no record whatsoever of violations or traffic accidents during that period.
For his part, Colonel Anwar Al Mulla, ICT Director at the Abu Dhabi Police, said: “Abu Dhabi Police’s participation in the exhibition enhances its role in communicating with the community of all age segments.” He praised the cooperation shown by all police departments to organize and guarantee the success of the police participation.
Al Mulla hailed the efforts made by the School Operations Sector of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, by inviting schools and students, and instructing them to visit the Ministry of Interior and the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s pavilion at the exhibition.
In the same context, Lieutenant Colonel Mubarak Bin Muhairom, Director of Community Police Department, explained that this participation is part of the Department’s efforts to spread social awareness among community members. It enhances the collective role to protect the community from the social risks resulting from lack of knowledge of laws, regulations and traditions that the UAE society is based on. It also acquaints the public with the dangers of some individual practices and behaviors.
“The Community Police is a law enforcement entity committed to social responsibility and is dedicated to carry out its effective role to developing the sense of patriotism and national affiliation. It works side by side with the other concerned authorities to eliminate any ignorance of the state laws, regulations and traditions that make up the community,” he added.
