The Ministry of Interior gave an overview on the tasks and goals of the Victim Affairs Office at the Crisis and Disaster Management Department at the General Directorate of Central Operations of Abu Dhabi Police, stressing that both the Department and the Office contribute in raising the level of readiness to deal with major accidents and mass injuries, in order to achieve the vision of the police commandment, in line with the general strategy of the Ministry of Interior in this regard.
Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry the Interior had participated in a workshop organized by the Victim Affairs Office at the Crisis and Disaster Management Department, General Directorate of the Central Operations of Abu Dhabi Police. The workshop was attended by Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Police’s Central Operations and Chairman of the Victim Affairs Office Committee.
The workshop was also attended by Director Generals, Department Directors, MoI officers and representatives from the Health Authority- Abu Dhabi, Red Crescent, the General Civil Aviation Authority, National Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, Police College and the Sharjah Medical Services Department. Participants were briefed on the achievements, goals and tasks of the Victim Affairs Office.
Colonel Mohammed Ali Al Dalal, Deputy Chairman of the Victim Affairs Office Committee, said: “the Office aims to inform more people about the Committee’s accomplishments since its establishment, restrict the available capabilities to entities, institutions and partners on the state level and to enhance cooperation among them, in order to prevent ambivalence of procedures and capabilities; as everyone is a partner in maintaining the security and stability achievements and protect disasters’ victims.
Al Dalal emphasized the higher leadership’s keenness to benefit from available efforts and capacities to address possible crisis and disasters, whether natural or manmade. “The Victim Affairs Office Committee chaired by the General Directorate of Central Operations of Abu Dhabi Police was established to achieve the vision of the police commandment, in line with the general strategy of the Ministry of Interior in addressing major accidents and mass injuries,” he added.
He went on saying that the Office has made significant strides towards leadership and precedence, similar to developed countries in this field, noting that the Office has become a highly praised office in terms of efficiency, both on local and international levels, and is competing with some countries in the technical and procedural fields.
Colonel Al Dalal stressed that achieving membership with the International Group of Interpol for Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Program, reflects the evolution of the Office, adding that the United Arab Emirates is the only country in the Middle East within the group, which includes 12 countries worldwide.
Moreover, Colonel Al Dalal emphasized the need for concerted efforts between all entities and institutions to address any crisis or disaster that may occur in the future, by finding and providing the necessary means and methods to prevent their occurrence and prepare for them with preventive means and preemptive action, to try to mitigate their risks and impacts.
Al Dalal expressed his thanks to the police commandment’s continuous and unlimited support to enhance and elevate performance within all security and police fields to the highest levels. He also thanked the institutions, entities and members for supporting the committee’s activities and their active participation.
