Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and President of the Higher Committee for Child Protection, affirmed the keenness of the Ministry of Interior to promote child protection. He also shed light on the efforts made by the Higher Committee, in cooperation with other governmental entities, to establish a comprehensive draft law on child protection, called the “Wuadeema Law”.

He highlighted the risks of leisure time, websites and satellite channels programs on children and youth; noting the importance of facing such risks and of the concerted efforts of all community institutions to provide protection to future generations.
He also stressed the importance of assigning children with responsibilities that are in line with their capabilities and potentials during their leisure time, in order to hone their characters for their own good.
 
Major General Al Nuaimi made these statements in an address, during an event organized recently at the Khalifa University of Science Technology & Research. The ceremony was held to honor winners of the National Competition on the “Optimal Use of the Internet” Program launched by the Institute of Applied Technology, in cooperation with Knowledge Point Educational Consultant. The program is the first of its kind in the region, and grants students “Optimal Use of the Internet” certificates, after training them on the methods of dealing with the legality and safety of the Internet and all electronic devices to ensure commitment to intellectual property rights and the UAE federal law on cybercrime.

The ceremony was attended by Engineer Hussain Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Applied Technology and Director General of Abu Dhabi Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET); Dr. Abdullatif Alshamsi, Managing Director of the Institute of Applied Technology; Colonel Faisal Al Shuaibi, Director of Strategy and Performance Development; Colonel Humaid Al Muhairi, from the Security Information Department; and Lt. Colonel Jamal Fares, Head of Legal Affairs Department at Lt. General HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Diwan. Also attending were Lt. Colonel Faisal Al Shammari, Director of the Ministry of Interior Child Protection Center; Consultant Mohammed Al Hammadi from the Ministry of Justice and member of the Higher Committee for Child Protection; Dr. Muhammed Al Mualla, Senior Vice President for Research and Development at the Khalifa University of Science Technology & Research; Dr Khodair Abid, Director of the  Abu Dhabi Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET); Andy Milani, CEO, Knowledge Point; and Ali Awadallah, project manager for Cyber C3 in the UAE; alongside a number of faculty members from the University and schools participating in the competition.
 
Engineer Hussain Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Chairman, the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Applied Technology stated that the new Cyber C3 project is of great importance because it educates future generations of UAE nationals on the rules of the lawful and optimal use of the internet and other electronic devices without violating the freedoms of others. This would encourage those generations to abide by legal standards and keep away from cyber-crimes. He pointed out that the program also aims to teach students the proper use of social networks, to reflect the UAE heritage and culture instead of imitating the west. It also acquaints them with the risks of misusing the internet through smart phones and computers of all kinds; as well as the means to avoid piracy, theft of bank account information and online credit cards, and other cyber-crimes.
