In the presence of Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate, Vice Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), Dr Tayeb Kamali, kicked off on Monday, the Best Young Driver initiative at the Abu Dhabi Men’s College. The initiative launched by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police; comes in line with the unified GCC Traffic Week.
Visitors can access the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate’s e-program to reduce traffic accidents titled "Together", across the social networking sites, Facebook and Twitter, to get acquainted with the latest traffic events and traffic guidelines in the state. Moreover, members partaking in the Traffic Week program can benefit from an annual draw and win valuable prizes.
Both Dr. Kamali and Brigadier Al Harthi, accompanied by Colonel Khamis Ishaq Mohammed, Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police; and Lt. Colonel Jamal Al Amiri, head of Public Relations Department at the Directorate, toured the traffic awareness exhibition organized by the college, in collaboration with Emirates Driving Company; Omeir bin Youssef Group; Al Masaood Group; and Garmin Service Center.
The Emirates Driving Company provides a range of theoretical and practical activities on the importance of safety belt and a simulation device to evaluate driving skills; to educate students on the need to abide by traffic laws, reduce speed and avoid using mobile phones while driving.
The GCC nations’ delegations partaking in the GCC Traffic Week celebrations in the UAE attended the launch of the initiative. They also visited the exhibition and got acquainted with its different activities.
Dr. Tayeb Kamali lauded the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Interior and the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, to educate the various segments of society on traffic laws to reduce traffic accidents.
Moreover, Dr Kamali emphasized that colleges are Abu Dhabi Police’s strategic partner in the service of society, to educate students on traffic laws, in order to become a role model for their peers with respect to driving skills and etiquette. He welcomed all GCC delegations participating in the Week traffic events, calling on them to get acquainted with the college's various programs and its role in spreading traffic awareness.
For his part, Brigadier Al Harthi indicated that the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police leverages the latest traffic awareness techniques; stressing the Directorate’s keenness to reach the largest segment of young people, who were responsible for 26% of traffic accidents in the past year.
With respect to the Best young Driver initiative, Al Harthi stated: “Young people are the backbone of the nation; they represent its present and bright future, and are entrusted with the task of building and progress. For this end, it was mandatory to exert all efforts to protect them, and teach them the concepts of security and safety standards. This can be achieved through a balanced traffic culture that highlights the various traffic problems young people may encounter, and provide them with the necessary tools to ensure they understand the dimensions of traffic safety”.
“The Directorate exerts tireless efforts in order to establish a traffic culture that provides safety of all citizens. This objective can only be reached by harnessing all media outlets and means that reflect the aspirations of young people and are consistent with their way of thinking,” he added.
