Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police announced that the Ministry of Interior will be providing free registration service for its pavilion visitors at the International Defense Exhibition and Conference (IDEX 2013).
While touring the various pavilions at IDEX, Al Raisi indicated that this service allows visitors to register in the Electronic Ports project, which was implemented at Abu Dhabi International Airport, during October 2012. It also allows subscribers to finalize their travel procedures easily and in just 15 seconds.
Moreover, he indicated that the ministry is giving a presentation on the project at its pavilion. This presentation will acquaint visitors with the services it provides to passengers and airlines; and its contribution to boost the tourism sector and highlight the UAE’s progress and technological advancement.
“The project implements 3-biometrics (iris recognition, fingerprints and face recognition) to passengers across all UAE’s border points, to facilitate and speed up travel procedures for UAE visitors, and support traffic safety and security across these points. It also merges all existing systems used at border points into one integrated system,” he added.
Furthermore, Major General Al Raisi revealed that the iris recognition technology has succeeded, since its application in 2003, up until the end of last month, in preventing the entry of 351, 318 deportees through various state border points; including 1150 deportees who departed the State during January 2013.
He indicated that the iris recognition technology, implemented in line with the Police Leadership’s directives, is used to support traffic safety and security across the various UAE land, sea and air border points. It has achieved impressive results and proved to be highly effective in preventing people who try to re-enter the UAE after issuing fake passports, and acquiring entry or work visas.
“The new system quickly captures retinal scans using a high-accuracy camera. Then it sends the captured scans to the iris recognition database, where it is matched with the stored travelers’ information or existing retinal scans, in a fast and accurate manner. Cameras used in the country are specifically designed to capture retinal scans with precision and high accuracy,” Al Raisi said.
Moreover, Major General Al Raisi noted that the Ministry of Interior is displaying at its pavilion, the new UAE e-passport project, that it has recently began issuing for its citizens, ahead of the 2014 deadline. The new e-passports are in line with the technical and security requirements issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The e-passport provides the highest levels of protection to nationals, thanks to its international specifications and standards. It also helps facilitate and speed up travel procedures for all UAE nationals.
It is noteworthy that the new design of the e-Passport takes into account the specific nature of traditional Arab-Islamic in the UAE. It carries an internal picture of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, in addition to the standard international technical and high-tech specifications. It also contains encrypted biometric data of the passport holder; easily readable by all cutting-edge devices used at all international border points and airports around the world. The new e-passport also prevents any fraud attempts and name duplications; and provides more personal data protection.
