Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, announced the adoption of the first guiding standard in a step towards implementing the Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2008) in police institutions.

The announcement was made at a workshop held at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Hotel in Abu Dhabi. The workshop was attended by GCC police commandment delegations, the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology, the GCC Standardization Authority, the Omani Standardization Authority, and many officers and experts.

“This achievement is the realization of the vision of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, which aims to ensure that the emirate’s society continues to live in a safe and secure environment by providing high quality police services to citizens, residents, and visitors,” Major General Al Nuaimi said in his speech.

Major General Al Nuaimi added that this standard is related to the applications of police institutions in general; it took into consideration the structural differences of the police institutions at regional and international levels. The standard draws a general framework for the Quality Management System, and it exclusively addresses the police institutions in terms of: system structure, the type of documentation and training required, responsibilities and powers, and the identification of processes and mechanisms for measuring efficiency. The overall goal is to establish the police institution’s strategies and objectives in accordance with the concept of quality.

He added: “This standard aims to foster the quality concept in the police institution in many areas of development. Foremost is developing the provision of police services in an integrated way, supporting the bases of stability and investment of the local community in addition to meeting the needs of society.”

Following the training of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ on the Quality Management System, a specialized team from the Department of Strategy and Performance Development formulated a guiding standard related to policing, within the framework of the Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2008). The team also reviewed the best corresponding international practices in different fields such as health and education.

The standard was discussed and adopted nationally in the UAE and at the GCC level. This achievement is the product of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s belief in the importance of excellence as an integral part of the strategic development process. It constitutes a main pillar for success, excellence, and progress in all fields in order to elevate the name of the United Arab Emirates in international platforms.

Notably, work on this standard began in early 2011 as an internal initiative of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ. Work on the standard began after the work team underwent intensive training on the best international practices and the technical ways for developing and forming international standards. This standard encapsulates the efforts exerted by the work team and its associates.
