Participants of the 1st Conference for Woman Police 2012, held at the Intercontinental – Abu Dhabi, discussed a number of topics which focused on improving members of woman police in the fields of legal education, police work, and woman rights legislations. The focus was also on giving women opportunities for creativity and distinction.

Major General Mohammad Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Director of Police Operations in Abu Dhabi Police reasserted the significant role of our higher leadership in supporting Emirati women and empowering them in different fields of work to serve their community. He also reiterated the importance of this conference in enhancing cooperation and the exchanging of expertise between participants.

He welcomed all participants of local, regional, and international locales stating the supreme leadership’s will to support the Woman Police Association in the UAE, to achieve its goals in serving police work. He pointed out the importance of bringing in local and international expertise to boost the knowledge of the participants.

Jane Townsley, President of the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) commended the enhanced level of woman police in the UAE.  She also said: “The organization of this conference and the number of attendees reflects the importance of women in UAE in general, and in police work in particular. IAWP is ready to provide training and updates to improve women’s performance in police work.”
 
Participants presented papers in eight workshops during the last days of the conference.  Ali Salim Al Khayyal, Director of International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) discussed the role of international criminal police in fighting crime. He pointed out that countries around the world are following the modern methods and concepts in fighting crime.

Lt. General Mohammad Al Shehhi, Human Rights Department in the Ministry of Interior, presented a paper that illustrates the contribution of the ministry to issuing decisions, legislations, and regulations regarding women’s rights.

Milan Sherif, Legal Researcher in Law Respect Culture Bureau at the General Secretariat of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, presented a paper titled: “Women and Law Education” in which she described the agenda and tasks of the Bureau that aims to increase legal education.
 
She said: “The target of this strategic bureau is to build a social education that focuses on respect of law in line with Ministry of Interior’s vision.”

Lieutenant Sabah Salim Al Tawashi presented a paper regarding the crime scenes crimes where she explained the tasks undertaken at a crime scene, how to manage it, the overall concept, people who are authorized to enter the scene, and the investigators’ work. A documentary about crime scenes was displayed during the presentation.

The IAWP’s paper included the definition of the association and its targets and opportunities to improve professionalism. A documentary was shown regarding new conferences, how to subscribe to the association, participate in its activities, and win prizes given to members.
