Crime Scene Department handled 7191 cases in 2009

 

The Department of Crime Scene of the Directorate General of Security and Ports Affairs at ADP handled a total of 7191 cases at Abu Dhabi Emirate level in 2009

According to Major Salim Khalifa Al Darie, Director of Crime Scene Department, Abu Dhabi Branch dealt with 4055 cases, Al Ain Branch 2516 cases, Tareef Branch 464 cases and 156 cases by the Major Crimes Branch. Thefts, traffic accidents, fire incidents and work injuries were on top of the cases handled by the Department.

The cases of theft at the Emirate level were 1152 by Abu Dhabi Branch, 766 dealt with by Al Ain Branch and 105 handled by Tareef Branch.

Natural deaths cases came next on the list. In Abu Dhabi 505 cases, then 462 traffic cases and fire incidents 300 cases and work injuries 183 cases.

In Al Ain Branch the traffic accidents took the second place 220 cases, then fire incidents 215 cases and domestic violence 139 cases. Fire incidents took the second place in Tareef Branch 54 cases, work injuries 43 cases and brawls 42 cases. In respect of Major Crimes Branch, the work injuries took the second place 29 cases, then fire incidents 14 cases. 

Al Darie has confirmed that the Crime Scene Units System which has been activated at Abu Dhabi Emirate level has proved its effectiveness. For example the Industrial Area Unit in Al Ain handled 855 cases, Al Khalidia Unit dealt with 815 cases, Mussafah Unit handled 752 cases, Al Shaabiah Unit dealt with 714 cases, Al Maqam Unit in Al Ain handled 663 cases, Bani Yass Unit handled 650 cases and Al Jimmie Unit in Al Ain handled 614 cases.

ADP has paid great attention to Crime Scene manpower in the light of the achieved successes. Their organization of work and coordination with several security authorities has resulted in an integrated security work. They have contributed to the detection of crime mysteries, provision of great deal of scientific facts through the evidences recovered from the scene of the crime. The Crime of Scene Village has been provided with advanced equipment and apparatuses required for its tasks and duties. 62 training courses were organized for the Department personnel last year. 608 persons attended these courses.

He added, introductory courses about the Scene of the Crime were organized for external civilian agencies which their work nature requires them to deal with crime scenes, such as Health Authority, Prosecutors at the Judicial Department and others. We are keen that any one who deals with crime scene shall be aware of how to keep it away from any pollution. Other courses mixing between specialization and culture are also organized for some police elements who deal with crime scene, such as patrol men, investigators and evidence experts.
