The participants in the 6th Conference of Ultrasound discussed the use of ultrasound in the diagnosis of bone diseases and injuries in addition to its contribution towards the treatment and healing of patients.

Stressing on the development of this kind of treatment, which was used for the first time in 1984, they emphasized the need for international cooperation to facilitate the exchange of expertise, the use of advanced technology, and the importance of modern means in the diagnostic process.

Organized by the Medical Services Department at the Abu Dhabi Police and sponsored by the European League Against Rheumatism, participants at the conference tackled topics including work-related injuries, bone diseases, and the best ways to deal with it through the advanced diagnostic results that can be obtained through ultrasound.

Dr. Ayman Mohammed Al Fahim, Technical Coordinator of the conference, said that the medical services at Abu Dhabi Police have used ultrasounds to diagnose bone diseases since 2009, and are the first to use this technique in the Middle East. This advanced level of medical services in the region is a reflection of the Police Leadership’s vision to introduce the latest tools and diagnostic techniques to serve the members of the Ministry of Interior and their families.

He stated that the conference provides training opportunities for doctors, technicians, radiologists, sports medicine practitioners, and physical therapists on the latest diagnostic techniques and its use in the treatment of joints diseases. He added that the conference gathers a number of world specialists from the United States, Britain, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Serbia, India, Qatar, Bahrain, and Germany in the field of orthopedics.

Dr. Fahim defined the fields that use ultrasound for diagnosis, which include: rheumatic diseases, sports injuries, blood vessels, and natural treatment. He pointed out that the conference includes doctors and technicians, who will perform practical applications by using ultrasound imaging, as well as a number of workshops dealing with different topics in this area.

Lieutenant Colonel Jassim Mohammed Al Tunaiji, Chairman of the organizing committee, said that the conference was held for the first time outside of Europe. The hosting of this conference in Abu Dhabi represents another success to the achievements of the Medical Services Department in the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ) that develops and improves its medical and therapeutic services according to international standards.

He pointed out that the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, represented by the Medical Services Department, won the silver medal in the marketing award, a subsidiary of the World Summit Award, for its advanced level of medical services provided by the department to the employees of the police force and the development of the employees’ potential in the department.

He said that this victory reflects a culmination of their efforts to provide the best medical services, represented by the 6th Conference of Ultrasound, stating that the conference was a marketing endeavor of the Medical Services Department’s activities at the Abu Dhabi Police.

He noted that the marketing award is considered to be a world marketing approach for the organization, as its activities are known worldwide.

Major Dr. Ayman Jomaian, Vice-Chairman of the Committee, talked about the importance of the conference in enhancing the international cooperation regarding the use of ultrasound and introducing doctors to its development. He affirmed that it received significant attention from the Medical Services Department in the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ.
