Building under construction catches fire
Teams from the Department of Emergency and Public Safety, Civil Defence and Abu Dhabi Police managed to drowse the blaze which erupted yesterday in an under construction building at Al Reem Island, 600 meters from Abu Dhabi coast.
According to Colonel Othman Al Tamami, Director of Emergency and Public safety at Abu Dhabi Police, the fire erupted when materials stored in the cellar caught fire. Some of the workers sustained suffocation due to the spread of smoke. They were evacuated immediately to the field hospital of ADP GHQ; The Rescue Teams evacuated the workers who escaped to upper floors to avoid the flames.
Department of Emergency and Public Safety at ADP GHQ in collaboration with the Civil Defence Department have recently conducted a mock fire drill in a high rise building under construction, in Al Reem Island. The aim of the drill was to learn about safety measures taken by construction companies in these buildings.
