Al Nuaimi: The UAE seeks to become a center of excellence for child protection

 

Major General Nasser La Khreibani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Permanent Higher Committee for Child Protection has issued an administrative decision forming five sub-committees under MoI Permanent Higher Committee for Child Protection.  

Each Committee will work in its capacity to achieve the objectives of the Permanent Higher Committee for Child Protection, which includes the study of establishing a Child Protection Centre which deals with all criminal affairs that affect children. The Sub-committees will also study all phenomena that encourage exploitation of children, finding appropriate solutions, working with public and private organizations to protect children and the international police community to review best practices and other relevant issues.   

Al Nuaimi has directed that all Sub-committees shall start their work immediately affirming the keenness of HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, to follow up and support all efforts that achieve the objectives of our Higher Leadership to ensure the safety and security of the community. He has also stressed HH directives for the UAE to become a centre of excellence for child protection.

Al Nuaimi said "Selection of partners in the Higher Committee from different relevant government organizations reflects the importance of their role in the first stages of the project. This will not affect the complementary role of other parties".

The Permanent Higher Committee for Child Protection has organized its first introductory workshop at the Conference Room of the Forensic Evidence Department, under the patronage of the Secretary General of the Office of HH the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of Permanent Higher Committee for Child Protection. Colonel Mohammad bin Dalmooj Al Dhahri, Director general of Strategy and Performance Development delivered speech welcoming the audience and affirming the UAE Police Leadership keenness to make the internet safer for children and to enhance cooperation with the Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT). 

Major Fayssal Mohammad Al Shamari, Rapporteur for the Committee, Liaison Officer and Media Coordinator with VGT, in his opening remarks said "The vision and main objectives of the Higher Committee is to curb the increasing exploitation of children, efforts of the country including its membership in VGT, importance of the UAE national perspective, legislation fulcrums and organizing controls”. He also stressed the importance of international and federal cooperation, media awareness and research, organizational structure amendments and setting up MoI centre for child protection.   

Colonel Mohammad Ahmed Al Hosani, Deputy Chairman of the Permanent Higher Committee for Child Protection said "Child exploitation is a global phenomenon, and our country is not affected to the same extent as other countries. I urge all concerned to work together to ensure the safety of children around the world".

Lt. Colonel (Dr.) Jasim Khaleel Meirza, Chairman of Awareness, Media and Researches Committee has stressed the importance of media and media cooperation in this regard. According to his statement, security education programmes at schools are
