Al Ain Police executes a successful evacuation drill at Al Jimi Mall
Al Ain Police Directorate in coordination with Al Ain Department of Civil Defence and Al Jimi Shopping Center, has carried out a mock drill to fight a fire erupted on the first floor of the Mall building. The participating teams were surprised with the presence of a suspicious parcel on the ground floor discovered during evacuation and inspection of the building. Ten relevant parties participated in the drill.
Major Mubarak Saif Al Suboosi, Director of Al Jimi Police Station and Field Commanding Officer of the Drill has affirmed the importance of the drill to ensure the preparedness of human cadres, equipments, vehicles and technologies to face the incident and to achieve best results.
The Drill events began with a report received by the Operations Room from one of security staff of Al Jimi Shopping Center: a fire erupted in one of the stores located on the first floor, on Tuesday during working hours. Concerned police teams were mobilized immediately to the site of the incident to evacuate the building and control flames. Al Ain Civil Defence and other related Departments participated in the operation.
The Operations room mobilized traffic patrols to the site, closed the roads leading to it and facilitated the movement of emergency and safety vehicles to and from the site while evacuating the building and evacuating casualties.
The Security Staff of the Mall and Civil Defence Elements, under supervision of Lt. Colonel Hama Ain Al Darmaki, Director of Al Ain Civil Defence evacuated employees and shoppers from the building. Elements of Special Tasks cordoned off the building. An internal cordon was made by the crime scene team to allow experts and detectives to recover evidences. Emergency and Public Safety Section was directed to set up a field hospital at the fire site in order to treat injured persons. Al Jimi Police Station started recovering evidences and investigating the causes of the incident.
A media center was set up by the Public Relations Section, to deal with Medias and journalists expected at the site of the incident.
The setting up of the media center coincided with the incident time, when it had received instructions from the Operations Room to make all information and facts about the incidents available, so as to ensure coordination with all Medias through the well equipped Media center.
When the drill came to an end Lt. Colonel Tariq Saleh Al Shareef, Head of Al Ain Operations Section and general Supervisor of the Drill met with the officers and participating teams. They reviewed some important ideas and comments in order to review the learned lessons. He thanked all for their efforts in the Drill and wished them success.
