Abu Dhabi Traffic slashes traffic fines by 50%
Abu Dhabi Police has started implementing the new system delegating authority to Licensing Authority to slash traffic fines by not more than 50% in accordance with certain controls and without time limit.
Colonel (Engineer) Hussain Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of ADP Traffic and patrols Department said ‘The Department has already started amending the electronic system to assimilate the procedures of the new decision since the past three days. The process will take some time before making official announcement until ensuring that the process will work smoothly during the first trial day. Then it will be implemented at all sections and branches of the Comprehensive Police Stations, Department of Vehicles and drivers licensing and its sections and branches in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western region”.
“The new decision considers the special circumstances of drivers and encourages compliance with rules and regulations in order to enhance traffic safety efforts and to avoid negative results of traffic accidents offences”, added Al Harthi.
“ADP GHQ will not be happy to book offenders and does not target them in any way. He new system may be an incentive for offenders to review their traffic behaviors in terms of adherence to laws and systems made for their safety’, added al Harthi.
He has urged motorists to pay attention to self-monitoring derived from their sense of responsibility which leads to respect of law and maintains the rights of other road users willingly”, added Colonel al Harthi.
Colonel Khamis Ishaq Mohammad, Deputy Director of Traffic and Patrols said “The Department has been thronged by large numbers of customers since the early hours of the morning in order to benefit from fines reductions”.
As part of efforts to communicate with the community and to deliver distinguished service to the customers, the Department has offered water and juice to customers, distributed awareness publications to them and urged them to abide by laws.
Reception of customers during working hours - day and evening - at all police stations and not only Traffic Department aims to assist customers in finalizing their transactions and answering their enquiries.
The Department of Traffic and patrols has intensified recently traffic control on all roads at the Emirate level during the few past months where the numbers of booked drivers have greatly increased due to these campaigns.
