"Eid is a Season of Happiness. Traffic Accident Causes Sadness"
The Department of Traffic and Patrols at ADP has launched a traffic campaign under the slogan "Eid is Season of Happiness..Traffic Accident Causes Sadness" in order to enhance traffic safety during the last days of the holy month of Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr holiday.
The Department has decided to intensify traffic patrols round the clock on Abu Dhabi internal and external roads, at shopping centers and markets, which witness crowds on these days where people prepare for Eid celebrations.
Lt. Colonel Khamis Ishaq Mohammad, Acting Director of ADP Traffic and Patrols Department affirmed in a meeting held on Saturday, the campaign, under the slogan (Eid is a Season of Happiness.. Traffic Accident Causes Sadness) would include awareness programmes and field efforts to enhance protective culture among drivers and families so as to curb traffic accidents and resulting deaths and severe injuries, on external roads which witness heavy traffic by those who want to spend Eid holiday in different cities of the country. The meeting was attended by Lt. Co9lonel Ahmed Abdullah Al Shuhi, Director of Capital Traffic Department, Lt. Colonel Mahmood Yusuf, Head of Protocol and Tasks Section, Major Awadh Saif Al Blushi, Head of
Public Relations Section and a number of traffic officers.
He urged motorists to cooperate with traffic police elements deployed at different intersections for their safety and protection against traffic accidents. They should comply with traffic rules, speed limits, fasten seat belts. Be attentive while driving, leaving safety distance between vehicles and not using phone while driving.
He warned the youth against any uncivilized behaviors on roads, such as racing ion roads and reckless driving. Strict actions will be taken against such behaviors.
He also urged families to look after their children, they should not leave them cross roads with house maids, play football in streets, riding bicycles or motor bikes on busy roads, to avoid being run over. Last Eid registered 4 accidents of run over resulted in 3 medium injuries and one minor injury.
Motorist who would like to travel by land should check their vehicles, change oil, air filters and not using faulty tyres. Driver should switch on hazard lights in cases of break down to warn other vehicles. Broken down vehicles should be removed from the road to avoid accidents.
Lt. Colonel Ahmed Abdullah Al Shuhi, Director of the Capital Traffic Department at ADP Directorate oif Traffic and patrols said "The traffic patrols in the capital, have taken all necessary precautions in order to ease the flow of traffic on internal roads, especially at points which witness crowds. Shoppers are requested to chose times which do not witness crowds like early morning and noon. The evening period normally witnesses intense traffic which leads to traffic jams and congestions. Traffic elements will deployed on roads to streamline traffic and to direct drivers to alternative roads. Patrols will also book motorists who violate traffic rules".
