The Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrol Directorate warned of the negative impacts of noise pollution, because it reflects an uncivilized image and does not suit the level of civilization, development and respect of law that the country has achieved, in addition to caring for general safety and preserving the environment and the rights of others.
This measure coincides with the preparations underway by the directorate, for its open campaign to arrest the violators who modify their cars and motorcycles with illegal accessories and modifications to increase their sound and speed on highways. The campaign will be launched as of the 10th of June.
Brigadier Eng. Hussein Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrol Directorate said: "The Directorate will organize a comprehensive traffic campaign by the end of the June 10th deadline, to seize all violating vehicles. The law will be applied on noise causing violators, or people who modify their vehicles, whereas cars will be seized for a month in addition to a fine of 900 dirhams."
Al Harithi pointed out that this traffic campaign will focus on cars with loud engine noise while driving on highways. The campaign will also focus on loud noise coming from stereos inside the cars, which cause great disturbance to the public especially in residential areas. These vehicles cause a lot of confusion on the road to pedestrians and other motorists.
He also mentioned that the awareness initiative, implemented by the Directorate, in collaboration with the Security Media Department, at the Secretariat General of the office of HH, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, aims to raise the level of traffic awareness among the youth regarding dangers of modifying their vehicles to increase their sound and speed on highways.
Al Harithi said: "Any modification on the vehicles to increase their sound or speed is considered a violation. Such violations include electrical wiring, installing a nitrogen pipe and connecting it to the engine through special pipes adding gas to the fuel; replacing electrical wiring in the car; adding car exhausts (Headers), and installing additional powerful speakers in the vehicles. These cars would become a source of disturbance because of its loud noise and music in the purpose of drawing attention and showing off.
He pointed out that the Directorate is coordinating with the relevant departments to follow procedures in the near future regarding industrial workshops that change the specifications of the vehicles licensed to drive on public roads. Firm measures will be applied on these workshops to ensure their compliance with the law.
Al Harithi reasserted the Abu Dhabi Police commitment to preserve general safety and protect the environment, to limit noise pollution, as well as to protect the youth who perform illegal modifications on their cars; from the resulting dangers such as: an outbreak of fire when the car hits a blunt object and which may cause an explosion; or a short circuit with a fuel leakage after collision which will endanger the lives of the driver and his companions. Most of the modifications are done by unskilled people who completely ignore the simple basics of general safety.
