In coordination with the Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate extended the deadline to pay traffic fines by installments, in addition to parking fines issued by “Mawaqif”, the Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi mandated division on expired vehicles licenses. The deadline will be extended for three more months, as of tomorrow (Sunday) and will continue until August 4th, 2013.
The decision aims to give vehicle owners, citizens and residents alike, the opportunity to avoid failure-to-pay penalties, benefit from installment payment and renew their vehicles’ licenses through the federal traffic and licensing system.
Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate indicated that paying fines by installments will be facilitated by the federal traffic and licensing system, as follows: 50% of all traffic violations and “Mawaqif” penalties paid separately to each authority; (provided that the reviewer has not benefitted from installment payment before; the minimum number of violations is no less than two, and the combined value of the two fines is AED 1000).
Moreover, Al Harthi stressed that vehicle owners shall not benefit from the installment payment plan if their driving license has expired, hence, they must renew their driving license first before proceeding with the installment payment process.
He noted that the Directorate has added a new service to the fines installment paying service i.e. the impounded vehicles release to allow vehicle owners paying their fines by installments to have their vehicles released from impound, and proceed to the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department to renew their licenses.
Al Harthi commended the strategic partnership between the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate and the Department of Transport (DoT) which positively reflected in simplifying procedures for vehicle owners particularly during the previous installment payment plan compared to the same period of last year. He noted that the number of drivers who benefited from the plan between November, 18th 2012 and February 18th 2013 and were able to renew their licenses amounted to 144,824 drivers. The number of renewed vehicles’ licenses between November 18th 2011 and February 18th 2012 was 22,436 vehicles.
Al Harthi added: “In order to renew the vehicle’s license through the Federal Traffic and Licensing System, the vehicle’s owner must pay all traffic fines he owes to the Emirates; the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai; municipalities of both the UAE and GCC countries. He also needs to pay 50% of the total of Abu Dhabi Traffic Department’s violations and ‘Mawaqif’ penalties upfront, provided that he settles the remaining 50% of the amount during one year”.
Moreover, Al Harthi explained that violations to be paid by installments are determined after query about penalties due to the Traffic Department and the Federal Traffic and Licensing System. 50% of the outstanding penalties are to be paid upfront; the remaining half, including Abu Dhabi Traffic Department’s violations and “Mawaqif” penalties, to be paid in installments.
He indicated that the new installment payment scheme is being implemented at all Traffic Violation branches of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate; the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western region. This comes in line with the efforts to provide traffic safety, by motivating offenders to change their behavior and adhere to the proper driving ethics and law
