Abu Dhabi Police urges drivers to remove
 their vehicles from the road

ADP Department of Traffic and Patrols has urged drivers to remove their broken down vehicle from blocking the road and park them at the nearest safe place. This is for their safety, smooth traffic flow and to avoid further accidents. It is also a legal requirement to move your vehicle where possible.

Lt. Colonel Ahmed Abdullah Al Shuhi, Director of the Capital Traffic at the Department of Traffic and Patrols said “Leaving broken down vehicles or replacing tyres on main road lanes can lead to being knocked by passing cars and increases risks of traffic accidents when other motorists try to change their lanes to avoid hitting the vehicle”.

He has affirmed that drivers who do not remove their vehicles from the main road for repair, or do not contact recovery services companies or ADP Central Operations on 999 for help, will be given a traffic violation ticket. This entails a fine of Dh200.

Al Shuhi urges drivers who will travel long journeys to check their vehicles before starting their journey, as part of ‘Vehicle Safety” and “Travel by Land” Campaigns, as during this time of the year the traffic on highways will be very intense. The checks should include radiator water abnd coolane levels  to avoid fires resulting from the engine overheating. It’s also vital to check the tyres.

Tyres should meet the specified measures and specifications. Avoid rebuilt tyres, replace expired tyres to avoid blow-outs which mostly happen during the summer season due to high temperatures. Ensure that there is adequate fuel in the vehicle tank for long journeys, oil engine and air filters are changed and any other parts that require periodical replacement or servicing, so as to avoid road breakdowns.
