The Traffic and Patrols Directorate of the Abu Dhabi Police have set up a temporary space on the Abu Dhabi Corniche to seize vehicles that violate traffic laws and regulations during the 41st National Day celebrations. Among the violations are: failing to adhere to decoration regulations and driving recklessly.

Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police said that they have set up a plan that includes “Traffic Patrols” and “Traffic Investigations” to provide traffic safety and limit the violations that may occur on the roads and areas where cars parade in Abu Dhabi during the celebration.

Brigadier Al Harithi stressed that all roads will be monitored by cameras deployed in different areas, while a specialized team will record and take photos of violating vehicles to be immediately seized.

“This year, unlike previous years, we will implement the immediate seizing of vehicles in the temporary space opposite to the Hilton Hotel-Abu Dhabi on the Abu Dhabi Corniche. These vehicles will be later moved to the main impound location where they will remain for one month. The drivers will be fined penalties amounting to AED 2,000 and will be issued twelve black points on their driving record,” he said.

“We will immediately seize any vehicles whose drivers spoil public property including pavements and environmental infrastructure, as well as vehicles that cause traffic-jams and block roads. Drivers, who in any way behave in an uncivilized manner, contrary to the country’s achievements, will also be apprehended,” Brigadier Al Harithi added.

He said that the directorate has set up car decoration guidelines for the National Day celebrations. This is to enable all community members to express their happiness for this great national occasion in a civilized manner, avoiding any violation of traffic laws and regulations.

“According to the decoration guidelines, drivers are not allowed to change the color of their vehicle, use posters or any inappropriate or impolite expressions, overload their vehicle, hang out of the windows, or tint the windshield,” he explained.

Brigadier Al Harithi warned drivers against hiding the front or back car plates, performing any stunts or risky maneuvers on the roads, blocking the roads, and undertaking any other behaviors that may cause chaos or annoy others. He also urged them not to equip their vehicles with any means that cause noise and disturb people.

He stressed that authorities will firmly deal with any uncivilized behaviors on the roads that do not fit the values represented by the 41st National Day. “Those who use sprays or step out of their vehicles on public roads will face fines and we will immediately seize their vehicles,” he said.

Brigadier Al Harithi called upon motorists who wish to decorate their vehicles to adhere to the terms set by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, which was published via media along with illustrations in order to maintain traffic safety during the celebrations taking place from November 30th until December 3rd.
