Abu Dhabi Police seizes 2544 counterfeit laser ink cartridges

Abu Dhabi Police have seized 2,544 counterfeit laser ink cartridges, proved by the Forensic Laboratory as commercially fake, though they are wrapped in packages similar to the original products and priced accordingly.

The two Indian suspects were arrested while selling them to a company dealing with laser jet printers, which had paid a down payment 300 packages.

ADP Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has made a plan of action as soon as they received a report about the incident", said Colonel (DR.) Rashid Mohammad Bu Rasheed, Head of Organized Crime Section at CID, said.

It was evident that an illegal trade activity was going on in a stationary trading company in Abu Dhabi, selling and promoting laser ink cartridges, suspected to be counterfeit version of the original European ones", added Bu Rasheed.

"Criminal investigation elements stormed the trading establishment, where the two suspects identified as 'Sh.M.E, 55' and 'Sh.B.F, 33', both sales executives were arrested. The consignment was seized, after samples of it were sent to ADP Forensic Laboratory, where they were found to be commercially counterfeited", added Bu Rasheed.

The suspects confessed to counterfeiting the trade mark to make profit out of the price difference. Colonel Bu Rasheed said "Counterfeiting an original trade ,mark is considered a social and economic crime. Counterfeiting laser jet ink cartridges has become an international nuisance affecting many countries. Some unscrupulous traders convince their clients that they are purchasing an original product by selling them counterfeited ink packages wrapped in used original packages".

Thus customers suffer from several negative aspects, including poor quality of printing and short life span of the printer due to these counterfeited items.

He has urged customers to buy their goods from approved agents and suppliers, in order to avoid getting counterfeited goods.

ADP in accordance with laws and legislations is able to deter criminals who deal in commercial counterfeit.

He has urged the community members not to hesitate in reporting any suspected goods and law violations in all areas, so as to rid the community of the evils of such criminals and culprits.
