Abu Dhabi Police carries out a successful evacuation drill at Khalifa University
ADP Department of Emergency and Public safety has carried out a successful mock evacuation and clearance drill at the Scientific Laboratories of Khalifa University.
1st Lt. Abdullah Ali Al Ssagheeri, Director of Planning and Emergency Branch at the Department of Emergency and Public Safety and Supervisor of the drill said “the operation has continued for one hour. Technical Rescue and Rapid Reaction Section, and Ambulance Section have participated in the drill, in coordination with Abu Dhabi Civil defence Department6 and Mohammad bin Zayed Station in Mussafah Industrial Zone, by sending a well equipped vehicle to deal with any gases or chemical materials leakage. Ambulance, rescue and Fire Vehicles were present at the site of the drill”.
“The drill kicked off when the Central Operations Room received a report. Patrol and concerned authorities were mobilized accordingly. Then people and injured persons were evacuated from the building where the chemical leakage took place. Students and staff left their offices in accordance with the drill scenario and gathered in the university yard. Units of rapid reaction experts evacuated injured persons from the site of the incident”, added Al Ssagheeri.
1st Lt. Al Ssagheeri has explained to the University students the scenario of the drill, which involves a report about a chemical leakage at the University Laboratories. The operation includes mobilization of concerned units to the site of incident, evacuation of injured persons and providing them with first aids and clearing them of any remains of the chemical materials. The last step specialized units from Mohammad bin Zayed Station will storm the place and clear it of leaked chemicals.
Al Ssagheeri has affirmed that the Department of Emergency and Public Safety is keen to carry put such mock drills in cases of fires or chemicals leakage in order to measure the performance of the Department’s Units. The drill comes within the framework of partnership with different institutions in Abu Dhabi Emirate which include Educational Institutions. The aim of today’s drill is to boost the culture of rapid reaction and rescue among scientific laboratories staffs and students.
Dr. Mohammad Al Maala, Acting Deputy President of Khalifa University for Academic Affairs has lauded the spectacular success of evacuation drill. He said “The drill has also contributed to acquainting us with the University commitment to provide safe environment for students and staff, as such drills aim to achieve highest levels of preparedness for emergencies, appreciating the assistance of the Department of Emergency and Public safety in execution of the drill”.
