Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters launched an awareness initiative about the risks of fog on Wednesday. The initiative comes from Department of Security Media at the Secretariat General of the Office of HH the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, in collaboration with ADP Directorate of Traffic and Patrols.

Major General Mohammad bin Al Awadhi Al Minhali, Acting Director General of ADP Policing Operations said "The imitative will focus on sending a modern media message to educate motorists on the dangers of driving during foggy weather. Different Medias will be used and through ADP sites on the internet, Facebook and Twitter".

"Through this initiative, together with the effective partnership of Medias an awareness messages in three languages, Arabic, English and Urdu will be broadcasted to address different community segments on the methods to be adopted for safe driving during unusual weather conditions, especially when fog blankets roads", added Al Minhali.

Al Minhali urged drivers to reduce speed during heavy fog and to use low lights to avoid reflection of light by water drops.

When it is difficult to drive in heavy foggy conditions, drivers must stop their vehicles outside the road, switch off the head lights and not stop on the road so as not to cause accidents with vehicles coming from behind.

Drivers must also listen to weather broadcasts, traffic flow on roads and leaving safe distance between vehicles and increasing this distance according to weather conditions changes so as to be able to control your vehicle in cases of emergency.

A traffic accident took place on Wednesday morning on Naahil – Suwaihan Road due to sudden turn, non-attention and non-compliance with foggy weather driving rules by the driver of the involved vehicle.

ADP urged drivers not to use hazard lights, unless there is an accident on the road if the accident happens when the driver vehicle is passing by, during foggy conditions.
