Abu Dhabi Police arrest a trafficker selling 50 kg of hashish

Abu Dhabi Police arrested a drug trafficker after he was attempting to sell 50 kg of hashish worth AED 400.000, according to Brig. Hammad Ahmed Al Hammadi, Director of Criminal Investigation Department in Abu Dhabi Police who said, “The close monitoring by Abu Dhabi police has led to the arrest of two suspects, one of them a university student,"

The incident occurred in middle of December when the anti-drug trafficking department got a tip-off stating that a 22-year old drug peddler named N.M.K, has smuggled in a large quantity of hashish that is still in his possession.

After verifying the information, the police formed a team to monitor the suspect and those involved. “The operation, he said continued for days until they were caught red handed”, Brig. Al Hammadi continued.

"An undercover policeman posed as a drug buyer and set a date to seal the deal," said Lt. Colonel Sultan Swayeh Al Darmaki, Head of Abu Dhabi Anti-drug Trafficking Section.

"The police then intervened and detained the drug dealer with 50 kg of hashish packed in 94 plastic tubes carrying the tag of a cosmetic brand alongside a cash amount serving as evidence to convict him," Lieutenant Colonel Al Darmaki explained.

During the interrogation, N.M.K. said his role was limited to selling the drugs in exchange for a commission that he gets from the gang leader based in
his homeland.

N.M.K. added that after getting into the country through a land entry point, he headed to one of the emirates in a rented car with the help of the gang leader's direction over the phone.

The gang leader told him about the location of the two bags containing drugs which were hidden in an agricultural area on the main road. The trafficker also told about a buyer with whom he agreed to buy 2kg of hashish.

An unemployed drug dealer, A.A.K, 28 years old, has also been arrested along with his friend, an Arab university student named B.H.T, 30 years old. After closed monitoring, the operation “Zero hour” was finally over when the two suspects were arrested in the buyer’s car in Abu Dhabi.

Head of the anti-Drug Section said that UAE is committed to remain clean from drugs, despite the wide activates of drug traffickers in the Gulf area. Abu Dhabi Police pays a great attention to combat drugs, and works to promote the concept of partnership with the various civil society organizations, to establish public awareness against its threats. He explained that the role of both locals and expatriates residing in the UAE is to report suspects and suspected places or any event violating the law.
