The Civil Defense General Department launched the “My School’s Safety” campaign in Hamoodh bin Ali School in Abu Dhabi in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Educational Council (ADEC). The campaign will run for three months and will cover the entire Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The launch of the campaign was attended by Colonel Muhammed Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Civil Defense General Department; Muhammed Salem Al Dhahiri, Executive Director of the Operations Sector in Abu Dhabi Educational Council; and Lt. Colonel Sami Khamis Al Naqabi, Director of Civil Defense and Safety Department along with a number of officers in the Civil Defense General Department and officials at ADEC.
The campaign began with the visit of Colonel Al Nuaimi and Muhammed Salem Al Dhahiri that was organized in the sports hall of Hamoodah bin Ali, where Captain Abdullah Hamad Al Tamimi Head of Customer Service and Public Relations Division in the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense, accompanied by a team of personnel, presented a number of activities for students. The activities included videos to increase the awareness on security and safety educating them on how to prevent fires, and how to manage situations when fires occur, especially issues related to gas, electricity, and power wirings.
A number of brochures and publications on how to handle fires were distributed, and the team of personnel explained through visual aids the safety requirements to prevent fires, and modern methods to contain fires and prevent them from spreading or breaking at homes or schools.
Students were also introduced to the missions of civil defense, and to their efforts to protect lives and properties. They showed interest and enthusiasm in the topic, and the personnel organized a session in which questions were asked to students, and gifts were presented to those who gave correct answers.
While launching the campaign, Colonel Muhammed Abdullah Al Nuaimi, and Muhammed Salem al Dhahiri, reviewed the Security Institute Vehicle at the Ministry of Interior during his visit. The vehicle performed a practical experiment through a specialized team in which it showed the students different ways to protect themselves from home fires. The exercise was on a fire breaking out in a kitchen.
The National Security Institution also presented a live exercise on how to deal with earthquakes. The students expressed their admiration of the skills of the staff, and showed understanding towards the topics. They were also briefed on the method adopted by the Civil Defense, and the equipment they use to implement their missions.
Speaker of the campaign, Lt. Colonel Sami Khamis Al Naqabi, Director of Civil Defense and Safety Department said that the “My School’s Safety” campaign aims to achieve the goals of the Ministry of Interior in public safety and spreading awareness through an MoU that was signed earlier between the Civil Defense General Department in Abu Dhabi and ADEC. The MoU included a number of items such as “My School’s Safety” campaign that will last for three months and will be divided as per the following: one month on the island of Abu Dhabi, and a month in Al Ain City, and the final month in Al Gharbiyah region.
He explained that bin Hamoodah School will be the assembly center for the boys’ schools, while Al Dhabianiah School will be the assembly center for the girls’ schools, the entire campaign team will continue to visit other schools outside of the city of Abu Dhabi.
