The Ministry of Interior called on traffic offenders who have accumulated 24 traffic points, to take advantage of the Traffic Black Points Reduction Program, to have eight points removed from their records, provided that they succeed in the program, and that they have not reached the cumulative total of 31 points.
The Ministry set a deadline that expires on January 31, 2013 for offenders wishing to benefit from the program and regularize their statuses throughout the state.
Lt. Col. Suleiman Al Direi, Chief of Police Follow-up Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, said that the Department has recently provided an additional rehabilitation service for this category of motorists, in order to regularize their status and be able to drive after successfully passing the rehabilitation and training sessions of the Traffic Black Points Reduction Program at one of the accredited Traffic Institutes in the state, to avoid having their driving licenses withdrawn. He also referred to the coordination in this regard between Traffic Departments and Police Leaders at the state’s level.
He mentioned that Police Follow-up Department has provided this new rehabilitation service following the success of the program “Make your driving points-free” at the state’s level. This program targets drivers who have reached the cumulative limit of 24 traffic points for three consecutive times; drivers wishing to reduce their traffic points tally by 8 traffic points, and have not attained the cumulative limit of 24 points. It is noteworthy that this service is only allowed once a year.
The Traffic Black Points Reduction Program, launched by the Directorate, targets drivers with temporary driving licenses under trial, whose licenses have been withdrawn with a cumulative limit of 24 points as a first precedence; as well as truck drivers, involved in a flip-over accident; that run the red light signal or overtake where overtaking is not allowed.
He added that traffic violators can post their inquiries and register in the program by visiting the Traffic and Patrols Directorates all over the state, and accredited Traffic Institutes. They can also log in to the website by clicking the following link: www.adpolice.gov.ae/csd or by calling the number 600566006.
He stressed that the program generally aims to spread traffic culture between community members; reduce the rate of traffic accidents; enhance the efforts of spreading safety on the roads; establish a useful statistical database; and reduce recurrence of traffic violations.
He continued: “the rehabilitation program for traffic offenders, who have reached the cumulative limit of 24 traffic points, reflects the keenness of the Ministry of Interior to give drivers an opportunity to enroll in the program, and reduce their traffic points to avoid having their licenses withdrawn. It also aims to educate drivers to respect traffic laws; to develop their driving skills; to instill the culture of self-control; and to learn the consequences of violations that lead to traffic accidents.
He indicated that the appropriate program is determined according to the type of offence involved. The General Program is designed to make people avoid minor offences, such as using mobile phones while driving, or failing to use the seat belt. The Special Program is designed to check major violations, such as jumping the red light signal and driving recklessly. The Heavy Program is designed for truck drivers.
