ADP seek international laboratories assistance to identify the dead woman
The Department of Forensic Evidence of the Directorate General of Security and ports Affairs at ADP seeks to identify a dead woman through examining non-radioactive isotopes in her body, in coordination with specialized laboratories in England and Scotland.
Colonel Abdul Rahman Al Hamadi, Director of Forensic Evidence Department says this examination will help those concerned in ADP to identify the dead woman. This coordination with developed countries laboratories will pave the way for establishing a database for non-radioactive isotopes at the Department.
The case dates back to May 2009 when a woman was found in a coma in one of the car parks in Abu Dhabi. She was taken to the hospital but she died after a short time. Nobody came forward to identify her or ask about her. This forced us to seek help through examination of non-radioactive isotopes in her body. In her case DNA examination is of no use as there is no one of her relatives in UAE to match her DNA with.
Coordination has been made with laboratories in UK to examine specimens of her hair, nails and one of her teeth to know the rate of non-radioactive isotopes such hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon, oxygen, astrotatium and lead to know the geographical area where she used to live and the period she spent in UAE.
Bones, hair, teeth and nails of human beings consist of chemical elements available in food and water. Therefore, they reflect the geological and environmental geography where one lives. The isotopes of this element differ from one place to another.
Criminal sciences have recently started using non-radioactive isotopes to identify the geographical region of persons whose identities can not be known. They also help in tracing immigration of criminals from one place to another. For example if one person leaves Abu Dhabi to Britain, then to USA and back to UAE his hair can be examined and find indications in his non-radioactive isotopes about his movement between these countries.
