Abu Dhabi Police managed to arrest a housewife of Arab nationality in her thirties, impersonating a pharmacist and selling narcotic drugs (controlled pills) without prescription. The woman was working in violation of the labor law and professional integrity, to achieve illegal profit.
Preliminary investigations showed that the pharmacy owners and the woman’s husband, a pharmacist working at the pharmacy, were involved and had allowed the housewife to work illegally. The woman was caught posing as a pharmacist, wearing the official "white coat".
Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammed Borshid, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Abu Dhabi Police stated: “Members of the Anti-Narcotics section managed to nab the suspect N.T.H (35 years old) for allegedly trying to sell narcotic pills (controlled medicine) without prescription, to an undercover anti-narcotics officer, posing as a buyer”.
On the details of the incident, Colonel Borshid explained that the Department received information about a woman impersonating a pharmacist and selling narcotic drugs without a legal prescription, to specific clients in return for money.
He added: “The suspect was put under surveillance. Upon making sure that she is willing to do business with the undercover officer assigned to the task, it was agreed on closing the deal, and legal procedures were taken. The plan was carried out after determining the time and place of delivery inside the pharmacy”.
“The suspect was caught red-handed trying to deliver the undercover officer the amount agreed upon of narcotic pills without prescription,” Borshid continued. Moreover, he pointed out that she had asked the buyer to come when the pharmacy is not crowded with customers, in order to facilitate the sale.
He indicated that upon searching the suspect’s residence, the anti-narcotics squad seized the narcotic-drugs (controlled medicine), and legal procedures were taken. He added that the suspect was very careful in dealing with her clients, and chose them through trusted sources.
Colonel Borshid noted that the suspect confessed to selling and facilitating abuse of psychotropic substances without prescription, as well as possessing narcotic pills in her home.
Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Abu Dhabi Police lauded the efforts made by the undercover anti-narcotics team to nab the suspect, and prevent her from selling narcotic pills.
He urged community members to engage in security and safety efforts, by reporting any drug-related crime or suspicious activity, in any area and without hesitation; to put an end to such criminal acts, and promote safety and security of the community against greedy individuals.
With respect to awareness procedures carried out by Abu Dhabi Police to educate community members on the risks of drugs, Colonel Borshid indicated that Abu Dhabi Police is part of an integrated entity comprising a number of government institutions entrusted with the task of combating drugs, rehabilitation, treatment and awareness. Moreover, he highlighted the significant role of the family to prevent their children from falling into drug use.
Colonel Borshid underscored the important role of the Ministry of Interior, with respect to anti-narcotics efforts, by intensifying inspection clampdowns at the various country’s ports, reducing the supply, combating both smugglers and dealers, and following up on legal procedures. Concluding, he stressed the need for concerted community efforts to prevent trade and drug abuse, or narcotic drugs (controlled medicine) sold without prescription.
