The Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate announced on Monday that it has signed a long term cooperation partnership with Al Futtaim Motors, as a platinum sponsor, to support all events and activities of Directorate’s “Together” program to reduce traffic accidents for 2013.
The partnership agreement was signed by Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate, and Simon Frith , Managing Director of Al Futtaim Motors; in the presence of Yousuf Al Raisi, General Manager, Government Relations in Al Futtaim Motors, in addition to Len Hunt, President, Automotive, Al Futtaim Motors; along with delegations from the GCC nations’ traffic directorates.
In his address on the occasion, Brigadier Harthi said: “I hope this initiative becomes an incentive to encourage other companies to undertake their social role and to initiate more initiatives for the benefit of the country and its citizens”.
Moreover, during the press conference he held at the Fairmont Bab El Baher Hotel in Abu Dhabi, Al Harthi explained that the Traffic and Patrols Directorate is exerting intensive efforts to reduce traffic accidents, and their resulting deaths and serious injuries; as well as spread traffic safety culture across the various components and segments of society. He added that the Directorate has managed to improve traffic safety indicators and decrease traffic accidents deaths in Abu Dhabi by 19% compared to last year.
Harthi stressed the importance of cooperation and partnership to achieve the desired goals and aspirations; valuing the cooperation and support of Al Futtaim Motors, one of the leading national companies.
Harthi noted that partnership with Al Futtaim Motors is evident through the concerted efforts to ensure the success of the 29th GCC Traffic Week in Abu Dhabi, under the slogan “Your Safety is our Goal. This would promote efforts to support the social initiatives already launched, so as to define the proper cooperation formulas, to achieve the coveted goals.
For his part, Simon Frith, Managing Director of Al Futtaim Motors, said: “This partnership reflects our full awareness of the responsibilities that befall national companies and their role to further sustain all activities and events for the good of society.” He added: “The issue of traffic safety is a priority for all segments of society, and represents an urgent matter that needs to be tackled, to preserve the human mainstay of the UAE”.
Moreover, Frith emphasized that Al Futtaim Motors will spare no effort to enhance traffic safety across the country, from this week onward. The community-based initiatives launched by the directorate include the following: “The Best Family Abiding with Traffic”, which targets family as the main element, to encourage all family members to engage in the efforts to instill traffic safety. “The Best School Abiding with Traffic”, as school is the best and most efficient mean to spread traffic safety among the youth, and make it an integral part of their daily behavior.
For its part, “the Best Young Driver Abiding with Traffic”, focuses on instilling a deep-rooted traffic culture in young people, and respect for security and safety standards that maintain their lives. This can be achieved through a balanced traffic culture that highlights the various traffic problems young people may encounter.
