Hazardous substances incidents
Major General Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, C-in-C of Civil Defence has inaugurated the first scientific symposium on the civil defence acquired experience in confronting hazardous substances and high rising buildings incidents, at Al Ain Rotana Hotel.
The symposium which is organized by Al Ain Civil Defence Institute, in collaboration with Falk Safety Services Company, has attracted large number of audience from all civil defence departments in the country, experts and specialists in fire fighting and incidents control.
In his speech, Al Matrooshi said "The symposium comes within the framework of supporting the civil defence departments in the country with necessary new information, expertise and technologies, in order to fight fires, protect lives and properties, and promote and improve performance standard. This can be done through learning from the losses suffered by some vital establishments in the country, by studying, analyzing and finding appropriate solutions if we want to prevent such incidents in the future.
Brigadier Abdullah Saeed Al Suwaidi, Director General of Fire Fighting, Protection and Safety Affairs at the Civil Defence GHQ, said in his speech "The committees set up by the Civil defence GHQ play an important role in learning the weaknesses and strengths in national Factory and Kuwait Tower Building incidents. Ministry of Interior is keen to make appropriate plans to promote the standard of services delivered by the Civil Defence GHQ".
Major Ali Hussain Al Matawa, Director of Operations in Dubai has presented a detailed report about the fire of National Factory in Sharjah Emirate. He has stated the reasons of the fire incident, procedures adopted to control the fire, positive and negative factors and obstacles. He has also mentioned improvement chances which Civil Defence Departments aim to achieve, in order to promote security and safety measures and to protect lives and properties.
Major (Engineer) Aadil Ahmed Al Mazmi, Fire Expert at Sharjah Police, has explained the handling of Kuwait Tower fire incident, including recovery of evidences, causes of fire and safety measure which commercial and industrial establishments in the country should be provided with.
A number of the Civil defence Institute lecturers have reviewed the importance of availability of advanced and modern safety and protection measures, as they play a vital role in fighting high rising building fires. They have also stressed the importance of using scientific approach in confronting hazardous substances incidents, where fires can be controlled with minimum losses of lives and properties.
Falk Safety Services Company which sponsors the event has briefed the audience on its role, technologies and services in safety and fire fighting.
At the end of the symposium Major General Al Matrooshi honored the participating and sponsoring parties.
