Under the patronage of His Highness Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, the Law Respect Culture Bureau at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, in collaboration with the Finance and Support Services General Department and the Public Relations Department at the Ministry of Interior, organizes a Ramadan Council across the country to discuss legal issues of a social nature.
Lt. General Salah Obeid Al Ghoul, Director of Law Respect Culture Bureau, said: “The idea of the Ramadan Council confirms the Bureau’s keenness to spread legal culture among community members and to establish the concept of law respect. The special nature of this holy month, the religious and traditional character of this occasion and the keenness of the public to meet the Ramadan councils, motivated us to arrange these sessions and meetings that will address legal topics of a social nature, in order to raise legal awareness among the public.”
“Each session will consist of three points of discussion; covering legal, religious and social aspects. Specialists will take part in these sessions, including members of the Federal National Council (FNC) and religious figures, hosted by His Highness President of the UAE during the holy month of Ramadan; in coordination with the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments. People with disabilities, given a special attention by the Bureau, will also take part in the Ramadan Councils, where a legal interpreter specialized in sign language, will translate the issues discussed during the sessions, to enable them to participate by giving their opinions on the discussed topics,” he added.
Regarding the topics to be addressed in each emirate, Al Ghoul confirmed that all topics will focus on legal education.
The Ramadan Council session in Abu Dhabi will address the mechanism of legislation in the country; how the various laws are issued, as well as the role of the legislative and executive authorities in the legislation process. The session will also discuss the legal framework of crimes along with other relevant topics.
In Sharjah, the session, which will be titled ‘Child Protection in the United Arab Emirates,’ will discuss the legal framework of child protection on both local and international levels. It will also shed light on the major legal points within the UAE legislation regarding child protection and the concept of the children’s rights.
The session in Ajman will address the legal framework of foreign labor. This will include the legal and social aspects highlighting the rights and duties of labors in the country, whether within the punitive laws such as penal law or within the civil laws such as labor law. The session at Umm Al Quwain however, will discuss the concept and ethics of the public function along with the legal principles that bind it, such as the duties and rights of the public employee.
‘Traffic… Laws and Ethics’ will be the title of the session at Ras Al Khaimah, which will address the major negative attitudes of road users, the traffic culture and the respect of the traffic laws to avoid human and financial losses at all levels. The session at Fujairah will discuss the environment and renewable energy, and will raise the most significant legal aspects of the environment issue and its social impacts on the public. The session will also shed light on the individual awareness on the protection of the environment and complying with the laws related to it.
Lt. General Al Ghoul called on writers, intellectuals and legal experts among prominent community figures to attend the Ramadan Council in each Emirate, in order to enrich its sessions and provide them with the required cultural dimension.
