Under the patronage of Lt. General His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the 5th Sports Activities Competition in the Police College was launched yesterday evening, Sunday. The competition is organized by the Police Sports Association for members of sections and directorates of the Ministry of Interior under the motto: “Sports are My Health.” The competition continues for 12 days and includes: football, shooting competitions for senior officers, a shooting competition for males and females, snooker, tug-of-war, swimming, beach volleyball, bowling, running, walking, electronic football in addition to educational competitions for males and females.
Six sectors, which represent the general directorates and departments of the Ministry of Interior, are participating in the sporting events. The competitions are held on Police College grounds, Zayed Sports City, Police Officers Club in Abu Dhabi and the Ministry of Interior Headquarters.
The opening ceremony was attended by Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior Undersecretary for Resources and Support Services, Colonel Abdul Malik Jani, Director of the Police Sports Association, members of the board of directors of the Police Sports Association, and a number of senior officers in the Ministry of Interior.
Major General Al Khaili, reasserted the Ministry’s support to develop the sports capabilities of the departments’ members in the Ministry through organizing sports competitions for all members and by creating an atmosphere of honest competitions among all members. He wished luck to all the contestants.
The Consultant Abdullah Salim bin Nassra Al Amri, Head of the Police Sports Association, assured that organizing these sporting events is in line with the instructions of the police commandments to encourage police members to practice sports to enhance their psychological, social, and physical capabilities, in addition to providing suitable opportunities to better themselves in accordance with the demanding nature of police work.
The results of the first day of competitions were as follows:
In football, the sector of Naturalization, Residency and Ports Department won 2-0 against the Police College sector, and in another game, the sector of Assistant Undersecretary for Resources and Support Services tied with Civil Defense Department with no goals. In beach volleyball, the Civil Defense Department won 2-0 against sector of the Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior, while the Police College sector won 2-0 against the sector of the Assistant Undersecretary for Resources and Support Services. In tug-of-war, the sector of the General Directorate of Civil Defense won 2-0 against the sector of Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior, and the sector of the Undersecretary of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior won 2-0 against the Police College sector.
In the snooker competition, the Police College sector won 2-0 against the Civil Defense sector, while the sector of Assistant Undersecretary for Resources and Support Services won 2-1 against sector of Naturalization, Residency and Ports Department. In table-tennis, the Secretary General sector won 2-0 against the sector of Naturalization, Residency and Ports Department, and the sector of the General Directorate Civil Defense won 2-0 against the sector of Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior. In the bowling competition, the sector of Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior won 2-1 against the Secretary General sector.
