34 illegal residents arrested in a "Labour camp" in Abu Dhabi

Inspection Teams of MoI Department of Violators and Foreigners Follow Up, affiliated to the Directorate General of Naturalization, Residency and Outlets Affairs, surprised 34 illegal residents during their sleep in a labour accommodation in Abu Dhabi. They were arrested and referred together with the person who harbored them to the authorities concerned for further action.

The Inspection Teams entered the accommodation at 1:30 am, where they arrested 34 men.

The operation was carried out following a tip off about the existence of a group of illegal residents. They were living in an under-construction site containing caravans for labourers and the necessary warrant was obtained for the operation.

"Their accommodation lacks the minimum hygienic conditions and appropriate environment standards and they are exposed to skin and other diseases. It is regretted that these conditions do not suit the civilized stature of the country. They also do not comply with labour safety standards provided at legal labour accommodations", said Major General Nasser Bin Al Awadi Al Menhali, acting assistant undersecretary for Naturalisation, Residency and Ports Affairs.

Al Minhali affirmed that inspection campaigns would continue day and night at all times, as part of law enforcement strategy to ensure compliance with residency laws, regulations and amendments. The aim was to arrest infiltrators and residency law violators and those who harbour them at unsafe accommodations.

He urged citizens and residents to cooperate and report any such persons, or those who employ or harbour on 80080.
