On Wednesday, one lady was ran over and another person killed, both Asians, in two separate car accidents and died instantly, and other five people got medium to small injuries in four separate accidents. The cause of these accidents was the low visibility due to fog in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi Traffic Department forbade entrance of trucks on the highways and inside the capital until fog clears.

A woman died on Abu Dhabi Corniche when a car ran over her, and another truck driver died after a collision accident on the trucks’ highway in the area located after the Emirates roundabout.

Colonel Khamis Ishaq Mohammed, Deputy Director of Traffic and Patrol Directorate in Abu Dhabi Police, said: “The directorate forbade trucks going on the Abu Dhabi- Al Ain Highway and the Abu Dhabi- Dubai Highway. Trucks were also forbidden to enter the city of Abu Dhabi, in line with the plan for traffic safety, until fog dissolves. The directorate increased traffic monitoring and the number of patrols in internal roads and highways as well.”

Colonel Khamis encouraged drivers to be more careful during such weather by decreasing their speed, leaving a safety space between travelling vehicles, stopping cars in designated areas, following instructions that ensure their safety, using low beam lights, and to not use the hazard light while driving.
He requested to not overtake other cars in weather where there is low visibility to avoid collision accidents.

Lt. Colonel Ahmad Al Zayoudi, Director of Serious Traffic Accidents Investigation Department in Abu Dhabi Police, outlined the details of accidents occurring today saying: “An accident happened on intersection of Corniche Street and Rashid Bin Saeed Street that led to the death of one Asian lady when a female driver did not pay attention to the speed limit or the roads regulations causing her to run over the lady. Investigations are ongoing to know the exact cause of the accident.”

Al Zyoudi called on  motorists stick to traffic regulations paying attention to speed limits, stopping before pedestrian walkways, and decreasing speed before crossing a walkway in order to give pedestrians a chance to cross the road.

Major Mohsen Bakheit Al Menhali, Director of Highways Department in Traffic and Patrol Department said: “Three accidents happened on highways, one of which was a collision accident between two trucks after the Emirates roundabout resulting in the death of the Asian truck driver. Another accident happened on Hameem road, resulting in the injuries of three people, and the other accident occurred after Al Ajban interchange resulting in the injury of two people, one of medium injury and the other of minor injury.”

In the Western Region, Major Suhail Sayyah Al Mazrouie, Director of Western Region Traffic Department, reported not having any traffic accidents in spite of low visibility on Abu Dhabi Al Sila’ road, or on the internal Western Region roads. He pointed out that Western Region Traffic Department forbade movement of trucks, increased traffic monitoring and patrols in the highways and internal roads.
