Woman died, child hurt in car accident in Abu Dhabi

A Pakistani lady died in a tragic traffic accident on the spot and child, 2 years old, sustained medium injuries when her car overturned and caught fire near Al Khatam Bridge, on Tuesday. The child was sitting on the passenger seat.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the accident occurred because the woman was attending to her child. She lost control over her vehicle which hit an iron barrier, overturned and caught fire, said Lt. Colonel Mohammad Ahmed Al Mazroui, Head of Highways Traffic Section at ADP Traffic and Patrols Department.

Lt. Ghazi Abdu and 1st Warrant Officer Hamad Al Minhali, from the Highways Traffic Section investigated scene of the accident.

Al Mazroui urged motorists, especially female drivers, not to allow children below 10 years to sit on the front seat, as they might distract the driver and increase the risks of accidents.

Children below 10 years should be seated on the rear seats. Small babies should be seated on their special seats in the back seat for their safety in cases of sudden halt. They would sustain fractures or head injuries when they fall inside the vehicle.

On the other hand in view of fog forecasts during the next two days, Al Mazroui also urged drivers to be more attentive, drive at low speeds, not overtake other vehicles and use dim lights under poor visibility and not use hazard lights while driving in foggy conditions and keep more safe distance between vehicles. They should not use bright lights as they reflect the fog and block vision.
