The United Arab Emirates takes part in the Arab Traffic Week celebrations, celebrated this year by the other Arab countries from May 4 -10, under the slogan “Until When”.
The celebration, supervised by the General Secretariat of the Arab Interior Ministers Council, comes in line with the recommendations of the 12th Arab Conference for Heads of traffic departments.
Brigadier General Gaith Hasan Al Zaabi, Director General of Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry of Interior, said: “The Arab Traffic Week and other similar events should have an effective contribution in promoting traffic awareness among citizens; where the main focus is on the human being, as he represents the key element in traffic.”
Brigadier General Al Zaabi stressed the importance of educating all society components on the correct traffic rules and ethics, as well as the procedures that guarantee everyone’s safety in all circumstances. He added; that this education should be delivered through different oriented programs, which include the use of interesting works of art; the use of promotional panels at vital spots in the cities, on the main roads and gathering sites such as football fields, public transportations, etc.
Brigadier General Al Zaabi also suggested participating by establishing a timeframe, in which traffic awareness has a focused and direct impact on the public, throughout the activities taking place during these traffic weeks. He called on everybody to cooperate and collaborate to achieve more discipline and commitment, in order to create an educated generation, capable of taking up responsibilities.
He added: “This year’s Arab Traffic Week theme reflects the Arab World’s diligent commitment to minimize accidents and achieve traffic safety. Since accidents cause tragedies which affect all societies, we should seek methods to reduce the accidents’ impact on social, psychological and economical levels. The Arab Traffic Week is one of the most important events held by the traffic departments in the Arab countries, and for which they prepare different programs and activities, coupled with meetings, seminars, lectures, field visits, assemblies and programs, some of which are aired on Arab TV Stations.
Brigadier General Al Zaabi stated that this year’s theme is the object and purpose of all traffic departments across the Arab world and its societies. It is also the purpose of all road users, since traffic accidents have reached epidemic proportions in numbers and consequences, and became a disturbing phenomenon for everyone. He also said that the Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry of Interior has officially informed traffic and licensing departments in the country to celebrate the Arab Traffic Week.
Brigadier General Al Zaabi also said that modifying traffic behavior of all road users, whether pedestrians or motorists, remains the most vital element that contributes in reducing traffic accidents, since the human element is mainly responsible for accidents and their negative consequences. Cooperation and collaboration among traffic-related entities and constitutions on all levels is important to minimize this disaster.
