The UAE, represented by Abu Dhabi Interpol, has jointed the international team that will supervise the construction of the new Global Complex of INTERPOL in Singapore.
The team was updated on the latest developments of work to establish the new complex, at the end of third meeting held lately in Lyon, France, in presence of delegations representing 26 member states.
Colonel Ali Salim Al Khayyal, director of the Interpol at the Ministry of Interior, representative of the UAE at the meeting, said the idea of constructing the global complex had been suggested during the 79th INTERPOL General Assembly which was held in Doha, Qatar from 8-11 November, 2012.
The idea, he said symbolizes a new vision for the Interpol to assume a fundamental role in promoting capacities in areas of forensics and database.
The new complex meets the police requirements in many aspects including training and capacity building by use of technology and modern means, he stated. It helps the Interpol provide police agencies with round the clock operational support.
Expanding travel, increasing use of the internet and growing organized crimes in the 21st century justify the pressing need of construction the new Complex.
Construction of the new complex is expected to be completed by 2013, he added
The delegation comprised Colonel Ali Salim Al Khayyal, director of the INTERPOL, Colonel Aziz Al Ameri, director of Strategy and Performance Development at the Ministry of Interior, Major Mubarak Al Khaili, Head of international communication and cooperation at the INTERPOL, among others.
