The UAE participated in the 23rd meeting on identifying victims, organized by the Interpol in France, with a delegation headed by Colonel Mohamed Ali Al Dalal Al Naqbi, Deputy Chair of the Victim Affairs Office Committee, who is also a UAE representative in the global committee meetings of the Disaster Victim Identification Group –an Interpol subsidiary entity. The UAE is the sole permanent Arab member in the group.

In the meeting, Colonel Al Dalal presented the mechanism adopted by the Victim Affairs Office of the Ministry of Interior, and the latest developments in the office. A documentary on the Victim Affairs Office was also displayed, in addition an overview given regarding the achievements since the inception of the office.

He noted that the Victim Affairs Office was established as part of the Ministry of Interior’s plan to raise the level of readiness in terms of procedures and policies related to disaster victim identification in the event of major accidents or injuries.

The meeting was attended by representatives of many states around the world, during which many worksheets and presentations were given by specialists and experts in the field.

Colonel Al Dalal was accompanied by the following committee members: First Lieutenant Abdulaziz Salem Mohammed Al Junaibi from the Office of H.H. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and First Lieutenant Mohammed Khamis Salem Al Junaibi.

The Victim Affairs Office was established in 2009 by the higher leadership following the recommendations of the Permanent Higher Committee for Crises and Disasters. Since its establishment, the office has been taking solid steps to handle victims and identify them, beginning with the moment the disaster strikes and until victims are handed over to their families. The office has customized its work methodologies in line with Arab cultural standards, and presented them to the Interpol.
