Tyres burst accidents declined in Abu Dhabi over six months

The traffic accidents resulting from burst tyres declined during the first half of this year to 28 cases, in comparison with the same period last year 2009, where the accidents were 37, according to ADP Department of Traffic and Patrols statistics.

Colonel (Engineer) Hussain Al Harthi, Director of the Department said "This reduction in tyre burst accidents is due to the Department’s awareness efforts during the second seasonal campaign of the GCC States Traffic Week, under the slogan “Your Vehicle Safety is Your Own Safety".

He has affirmed the importance of continuous maintenance of vehicles to enhance traffic safety and that expired tyres should be replaced with new ones.

The Department of Traffic and Patrols continues distribution of awareness brochures to motorists for their safety. 50,000 awareness brochures, in different languages, have been distributed in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region through fuel stations and on highways.

The summer awareness campaign aims to raise awareness among drivers about the risks of not maintaining their vehicles and the use of faulty or expired tyres especially during high temperatures of summer season and the increase in journeys for the summer vacation.
