The Abu Dhabi Police arrested two Arab individuals, who were in violation of the residency Law, for kidnapping a young Arab man of a different nationality for ransom under the threat of death. The perpetrators held the young man for a ransom of AED 40,000, an amount which they had lost in a fake business deal.

The Criminal Investigation Department of the Abu Dhabi Police received notification from an individual claiming that his friend (J. R., 30 yrs) has been abducted in front of a cafe in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.  The two friends managed to stay in touch via SMS throughout the ordeal.

Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammed Borshid, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, indicated that a team was formed to follow-up the call, stressing that the police handled the issue with extreme conviction in an ongoing effort to stop such violations and abuse cases from occurring in order to maintain the security of society.

Colonel Borshid said: “Some text messages received by the victim's friend pointed out that the perpetrators threatened to kill the victim within an hour, if the alleged sum was not returned and deposited into a bank account.”

“Investigations showed that the culprits, A.A. (25 yrs) an infiltrator, and A.G. (27 yrs) a residency law violator, had kidnapped the victim by force from a public place in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, beat him and threatened to kill him if he failed to provide the required amount of money. They also drove him to a remote area on the External Roads, where they stole his money and personal belongings,” he continued.

Moreover, Colonel Borshid explained that the plan set up by the police team led to the liberation of the kidnapped individual and the arrest of two of the suspects in a neighboring Emirate; the release of the victim and capture of the suspects transpired with the coordination of relevant police bodies. He added that search is still underway to find a third suspect involved in the incident.

The Director of the Criminal Investigations Department of Abu Dhabi Police indicated that this type of crime is rare; he stressed the need for concerted efforts from all community members to reveal such crimes in order to  arrest perpetrators and bring them to justice.
