The Traffic and Patrols Department at Abu Dhabi Police intensified traffic awareness programs among motorists. These programs aim to provide guidance on the risks of traffic accidents that occur due to neglect and lack of attention by motorists preoccupied with their mobile phones, radio or ACs or talking with passengers. These risks eventually lead to traffic accidents, casualties and serious injuries.
Lt. Colonel Jamal Salim Al Ameri, Head of Public Relations Department underscored the seriousness of traffic accidents that occur due to neglect and lack of attention. “During the first quarter of this year, neglect and lack of attention caused 17 accidents in Abu Dhabi, which resulted in the death of five people, while two others sustained serious injuries”, pointed out Al Ameri.
Al Ameri noted that the Department organized 8 traffic awareness lectures in coordination with the Saeed Society to Reduce Traffic Accidents benefiting nearly 200 drivers working with the Western Bainoona Group for General Contracting in the Mussafah in Abu Dhabi. These lectures come in line with the traffic awareness campaign “Neglect and Lack of Attention”, as well as with the Directorate’s Traffic Awareness Plan for 2013, prepared based on the causes of traffic accidents.
Furthermore, Al Ameri indicated that the lectures focused on the risks of lack of attention and focus, as well as the risks of using mobile phones while driving, which could lead to serious traffic accidents. “The traffic awareness programs come in line with the social communication methodology, aimed to organize on-site awareness programs for companies, in addition to hosting drivers and agriculture workers at the Directorate,” pointed out Al Ameri.
“The awareness programs target also schools, public transport, buses, and heavy-duty truck drivers, with a view to enhance their knowledge about traffic safety and how to preserve life and prevent serious accidents by abiding by the instructions set by the traffic laws in the country”, added Al Ameri.
