The Unified GCC Inmates’ Week activities, organized by the Directorate General of Punitive Reformatory Establishments, Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with other regional departments at the UAE level; concluded today (Wednesday). The event was organized at the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries’ level under the theme: “My Family is in your hands”.

Brigadier Hamad Adeel Al Shamsi, Director General of Punitive Reformatory Establishments, Ministry of Interior, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, expressed his heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the higher leadership, for its generous initiative to release 327 inmates from Punitive Reformatory Establishments at the state level. The gesture coincided with the Unified GCC Inmates’ Week celebrations, and stemmed from the keenness of the leadership to bring joy and happiness to the hearts of released inmates and their families; it also comes in line with the leadership’s attention to all community members.

Brigadier Al Shamsi also expressed his gratitude to charities, governmental departments, institutions, private companies, and philanthropists, for the financial support they provided to the Punitive Reformatory Establishments inmates. Funds raised amounted to AED 4 million and 612 thousand, distributed to inmates and their families; to support Punitive Reformatory Establishments in the state; and to cover the cost of tickets for insolvent inmates.

He thanked all partners from the public and private sectors for their interaction and contributions to the GCC Inmates’ Week, which contributed significantly to its success.

He indicated that the Directorate General of Punitive Reformatory Establishments and regional departments in the country honored 167 inmates’ families at the state level, as part of the Unified GCC Inmates’ Week state ceremonies.

On the other hand, Brigadier Al Shamsi honored Colonel Abdul Hakim Saeed Al Suwaidi, Trustee of the Faraj Fund, in recognition of the efforts exerted by the Fund to provide support and assistance to the Punitive Reformatory Establishments’ inmates. He also honored the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, in recognition of its cooperation and efforts to highlight the celebration.

For his part, Colonel Abdul Hakim Saeed Al Suwaidi, Trustee of the Faraj Fund, extended his thanks and gratitude to the Beit Al Khair Society, for providing support and financially assisting 125 inmates’ families and 11 inmates from Punitive Reformatory Establishments at the state level.
